Follow the direction in which the wind has blown

Last night I went back to the falafel place for dinner. How could I not? It was so cheap and so tasty and so comforting to have home-like food. After Morgan and I ate there, we went with Yanet back to where we ate two nights ago, La Bodega Bohemia. Yanet made friends with a woman there who is also from the Dominican Republic and promised her she would cook her some comfort food. So it was essentially an evening of chasing comfort food. At Yanet's restaurants the woman loved us so much she kept the free sangria flowing towards our table- great! It was nice to have a fun evening out, especially since Morgan left to go stateside early this morning. She was having an ok time, but missed home too much to continue for another three months. It's really sad for the group because we were having a blast with her. It is important that she is taking care of herself, though.

This morning we got up early, packed our suitcases, and hit the road. We drove for about three and a half hours across an incredible dry, desert-like landscape. Personally I thought it looked more like northern Africa than northern Spain.

Note the "SOS" box on the side of the road.

Our lunch break was in Zaragoza, a mid-sized city between Madrid and Barcelona. The city is also home to El Catedral-Basilica de nuestra Señora de Pilar. Of course, what would a Spanish city be without a major religious monument? This one is important because it is in the baroque style, which means very over the top and gaudy.

The city also has a really beautiful plaza right outside the cathedral, so we spent most of our time walking around after lunch. It has an interesting blend of old and modern architecture, particularly in the sharp contrasts between the building styles. The fountain, however, was a great place to sit on the edge and cool down. It's hot here- almost 100F.

And the modern fountains on the plaza:

And now we are back on the bus! It has been interesting driving across Spain. Although I haven't seen much recycling in the cities, there are windmills and solar panels all along the side of the highway. That inspires some green confidence. I had my doubts.

Now I'm just waiting for the end of this eight hour drive. Estoy lista para Barcelona! Katherine is going to be there! And just because I happen to be listening to it right now, the song of today is "Don't let go" by Pacha Massive.

Location:Somewhere between Zaragoza and Barcelona
