And now for our final destination: Asilah. When we arrived at the new hotel we got all out laundry back from the previous uhotel, and hopefully it's bedbug free. It's all still wet though, so it's now hanging all over the place in tonight's hotel room with Amber.
I doubt it will dry since Asilah is right on the Atlantic Ocean and it's rainy and humid here.
This evening we toured the kasbah- yes kasbah, or casbah,
like the Clash song. A kasbah is the same concept of an old "Medina" city, though the names vary by location. The Asilah kasbah was quiet and didn't have nearly as many vendors as Tanger and Tetuan, but there were a few stores to go in during our few free minutes. Also, Asilah is a big vacation destination for Spaniards, and since the downturn in the economy, tons of the historical houses are for sale. Its evident that this is the off-season and the economy is hurting.
Asilah is, however, a big art city, so there are lots of ceramics, leather goods, and other pretty things. Also, lots of the walls in the streets are covered in huge murals depicting some part of the city's history or culture. Our tour covered some of the arts history, but from what I understood we'll cover more of that tomorrow.
The bedbugs situation is better... I think. While we're all still itchy and pussy (ew, sorry, truth) no one has new spots showing up. And much to our delight his hotel seems better than the last- knock on wood. We had to take super hot showers to kill whatever is living on our skin, but I'm not sure if that will entirely solve the problem. I'm pretty sure we also need some form of medication to stop the spread to other beds. In either case, I'm looking forward to talking with Carlos tomorrow about solutions. I understand the Preshco didn't plan for this, but there are enough of us with bites and Kim and her swelling tongue that I wish we could have gone to a doctor already. Yes, this is Morocco, but I'm sure there are doctors here to consult with instead of holding out until we get back for Cordoba. I think someone's parent called Esteban to check in or complain though, because someone heard him speaking in English saying "as a parent..." and other reassuring phrases. I just hope he understands that the trip itself has been great, it's just the bedbugs and no medical assessment that has us all a bit worried, both for ourselves and our families in Cordoba.
In any case, tomorrow we have the morning here, and then start our journey back to Cordoba around lunch time. Me voy a España. Adios Africa. Hasta.... hasta entonces.
