My procrastination tactic worked; I did zero homework before dinner last night, and instead took a nice 7 mile run in the cool, dusk air. I thought I would be dragging along the pavement after not sleeping too much in Granada, but I was cruising along and loving every minute of it. It was so good, in fact, that I went for another 5 mile run this morning, which makes for a total of 12 miles in 12 hours. I love running.
Running last night would have been even better, though, if there had been good food for dinner, but alas, that seems unlikely at this point. Maricarmen served little tiny fishies, whole, on a platter. Each fish was about 1 to 2 inches long, and had nice little blue eyes looking up at me. Kim and I couldn't handle it; we didn't even try to pull the napkin dump maneuver, we just said NO. Our host dad, Carlos, thought it was funny that we didn't want to eat it because it had eyes, so he made a joke and said "Oh, hello Jimmy. What is up?" in his adorable English. I laughed so hard because his English sounds more like,"Oooh, Heeeelo Geeemy." There must have been about 200 Jimmys on the serving platter. Ew/ RIP Jimmy, sorry you died in vain and I didn't even eat you. Anyways, after dinner Kim and I ate yogurts and snacked on chocolate bars in our rooms, per usual. It's a good thing we like yogurt, because we sure eat a lot of it!
This morning I got up and did homework after my run; it had to get done at some point, after all. My music professor, Pilar, was back in class today after her recent appendectomy. If I didn't know she had surgery, I would have never have guessed it, She was her usual overwhelmingly enthusiastic self, shouting away in rapid-fire spanish over the blasting loud music. She said she missed our class a lot, although I'm not sure whether I take that to heart or not. We never get a word in edge-wise, so maybe she just missed her captive audience. Nonetheless, I'm glad she is well and back. The rest of the afternoon and evening were filled with Sevillanas and a quick trip to the grocery to buy chocolate- standard monday!
Tonight we had veggies(!) for dinner that were steamed and cooked in a decently good sauce, with some cheese on the side. It was so nice to have food that I like! I'd say our ratio of good to bad food is about 1:10, which means another week or so until we have another plate of good food here en casa. Kim and I made a point of making delighted eating sounds and talking about how good the food tasted for the whole meal in hopes of more meals of a similar variety in the future.
I also had a nice long conversation with my Nana in Colorado, which was great. It can be hard to find a time to call her since she is eight hours behind Córdoba time. Its fun to check in with her since she is keeping up with my blog and adventures while abroad. She and my Papa visited Spain, Portugal, and Morocco years ago, so its interesting hearing about what she remembers from their trip.
Tomorrow I don't have class until 5:30, so I'm going to run (of course) and Kim and I are going to work on some of our long-term photograph assignments. No time like the present to get some work done!
