Examen de mitad del curso en español: CHEQUE

After two days of studying and a few running breaks, I think I successfully completed my first real exam today. It was just two essays, but I was able to identify both of the songs and write a fair bit about both the technical and sociocultural aspects of each piece. In typical Pilar fashion, she started the exam 20 minutes late, and shouted over the entire first piece. We listened to it a second time without her talking, too, but then she yammered on for the first 10 minutes of writing time. It's hard enough to process and write information in Spanish without her saying other Spanish things over my thoughts. I literally thought I was going to lose it- just let me focus and take the exam! Eventually (thankfully), Pilar did shut up, and I say that in the most adoring and loving way possible. There's no doubt in my mind why people call her "Pilar la Loca." On a positive note, said she'll have our exams back to us by Monday; I'll be anxious to know how it went!

After Musica I did a bit of work in the Preshco office and then went to Sevillanas class. The past few times I've been struggling with Sevillanas, but today I had fun. We're to the point where we can do an entire dance with arms and everything,  and beyond purely focusing on moving out bodies correctly and put some energy and passion into it. Today we focused a bit on facial expression and how, precisely, to move the arms and chin in sync. Not surprisingly, when both you and your dance partner do it correctly, the eye contact and entire dance become really intense. I hope that next week will be equally as fun.

Perhaps the best part of the day, however, was getting falafel with a group of Preshquitas post-Sevillanas. There is a little place in Plaza de la Corredera that sells falafels and kababs for only 3 Euro, so seven of us told our host families that we would be absent for dinner and instead enjoyed inexpensive vegetarian food.

To be completely honest, the falafel wasn't even that food, but the whole ambiance was just so nice. I love sitting in the plaza at a table with my friends, but it seems that as things have gotten progressively more busy here in Cordoba during the weeks and with traveling on weekends, casual get-togethers have fallen by the wayside. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to staying here this weekend, despite the fact that it'll be mostly work-filled in anticipation of my mom's arrival in slightly over a week.

And now I'm home. I said I was going to be productive tonight, but somehow my productivity always ends up directed here on my blog instead of on school work. Its too bad I'm not getting academic credit for this, but then again I think personal gratification is enough. Anyways, my papers aren't writing themselves. I'm going to try to get a few pages of Fotografía started. Tres-dos-uno-YA.
